Inspiring Encounters and Networking at SONA 2025 in Marrakech

28.04.2025

We are delighted to share our experiences from the 17th International Conference of the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA 2025), held from April 17–20, 2025, at the Cadi Ayyad University Conference Centre in Marrakech, Morocco. This year’s conference, themed “Brain Health and Environment: The Challenge of the Future,” brought together leading neuroscientists, early-career researchers, and students from across Africa and around the globe for four days of stimulating scientific exchange and collaboration.

Active Participation and Engaging Discussions

Representing the "Network of German Neurocenters", our team was proud to host a booth that attracted significant interest from conference participants. We engaged in numerous insightful discussions, particularly with highly motivated young scientists eager to learn about neuroscience research and training opportunities in Germany. The curiosity, dedication, and enthusiasm displayed by early-career researchers were truly inspiring and highlighted the vibrant future of neuroscience in Africa and beyond.

Diverse Scientific Program and Networking Opportunities

SONA 2025 featured an extensive program including keynote lectures from internationally renowned experts, interactive panel discussions, and a wide array of poster presentations showcasing cutting-edge research. Workshops and breakout sessions provided practical insights and skill development, while dedicated networking events-such as the IBRO Connect reception-fostered connections among researchers, educators, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Building Bridges for Future Collaboration

Beyond the scientific sessions, SONA 2025 offered a welcoming environment for exchanging ideas. The conference served as a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and exploring collaborative projects, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in advancing neuroscience research.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the organizers for hosting such a well-structured and inclusive event. We are proud to be part of a global community that supports the next generation of neuroscientists and promotes cross-border scientific exchange.
